Exposure Visit of Students to Assam Legislative Assembly Scheme A new unique and innovative scheme has been launched by the Department of Parliamentary Affairs in the Budget Session on 30th January, 2017.This scheme helps the students to understand the functioning of the State Legislative Assembly and the Legislative process .

What is the Exposure Visits to the Assam Legislative Assembly Scheme?

The Hon’ble Finance Minister presented the following new programme in his Budget Speech in the first Budget Session of the new Government during the July Session, 2016.

As the first initiative of the State, an Exposure Visit to the Assam Legislative Assembly  will be given to the Political Science students of our State under the Department of Parliamentary Affairs. In this regard, the scheme has been approved by the Cabinet under the Department of Parliamentary Affairs.This scheme helps students to learn how the State Assam Legislative Assembly works and how laws are made.

Eligibility Criteria : Assam Exposure Visits to the Assam Legislative Assembly 

The educational qualifications you need for The Exposure Visits to the Assam Legislative Assembly scheme are given below.

  • High Schools, Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges etc. of Assam can participate.
  •  Students studying similar subjects in political science, economics, and arts/humanities or social sciences are preferred.
  • Students who perform well in school and join activities such as debates and mock parliaments may be chosen.
  • Each group is required to have up to 50 students.
  • Only students who wish to join should be selected.
  • The participation is voluntary .

  • Students need their ID card.
  • Send the list of students to the Assembly Secretariat for passing.
  • Each student writes a one-page summary of their experience over the course of a week.

Apply Process: Exposure Visits to the Assam Legislative Assembly of  Assam Scheme 

Under the scheme, the application process is offline. The important points are given below.

  • Educational institutions and students are selected in consultation with the District Commissioner and School Inspector.
  • Letters of invitation are sent to the heads of educational institutions with the approval of the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.
  • The recommendations of dignitaries like Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Vice-Speaker, MLAs, MPs etc. are considered for invitation.
  • Selected institutions inform students about visit and conduct guidelines.
  • Transport to and from the  Assam Assembly and around Guwahati is provided by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC).

FAQs of Exposure Visits to the Assam Legislative Assembly Scheme

Ans: Students from high school to college level, studying political science, economics and related subjects will be given preference.

Ans : Selection is based on academic performance and enthusiastic participation in extracurricular activities. Participation is voluntary.

Ans: Participants are not allowed to carry mobile phones, purses, bags, writing materials, or water bottles. Valuables should be avoided.

Ans: The expenditure related to budgetary provisions is covered by the Department of Parliamentary Affairs.

Ans: It is proposed that respected senior citizens like retired teachers, headmasters, principals, freedom fighters and social workers may also be invited to watch the Assembly sessions.

Ans: Yes, interactions with dignitaries like Hon’ble Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister, Ministers, MLAs and senior officials can be arranged for the students.

Ans: Students should dress in the uniform prescribed by their school/college.

Ans: The Students are required to submit a short write-up summarizing their experience and feedback to their respective Headmasters/Principals, who will send it to the Department of Parliamentary Affairs within a week of the visit.
