Assam Scheme: Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan

The Assam state government led by Himanta Biswas Sharma has recently launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme for women engaged in small business through self-help groups. This scheme has been launched under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) aimed at empowering rural women entrepreneurs by providing financial assistance for small business/enterprise.

Women working in self-help groups (SHGs) can benefit from the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. The SHG women will be given monetary support beyond their respective SHGs to stand as independent entrepreneurs. An amount of Rs 3,900 crore has been set aside to implement the Assam Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has launched a program called Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) to help women start or grow their own business. Under this program, 39 lakh women will be given Rs 35,000 so that they can earn Rs 1 lakh per year. To be eligible, women of general and OBC category should not have more than three children.

Assam Scheme MMUA:  Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of Assam 
  • Women from the general and OBC groups can have a maximum of three children. Women from the Moran, Muttock and tea-tribe groups can have a maximum of four children.
  • Women from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe can have a maximum of four children.
  • You must ensure that your daughters go to school or promise to enrol them in school in the future.
  • You must take care of trees you planted under the Amrit Brikshya Andolan program.

Benefits of Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme 

Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme supports women in self-help groups in Assam by giving them benefits in two phases.The benefits are discussed in more detail given Below.

Phases 1.

The Assam government has selected 145 business ideas for women. They will get ₹10,000 in the first year to start their business.

Phases 2.

In the second year, successful women entrepreneurs will get ₹25,000. Half of this, i.e. ₹12,500, will be given as a bank loan and the rest will be given by the state government. They will get this amount after checking their progress in the first year.
